About Reflections Training Academy
Hairdressing and Barbering programmes in the South West and Midlands
Reflections Training Academy has almost 40 years of experience in teaching hairdressing apprenticeships. We offer work-based learning which means learners are based in a salon, earning money whilst attending training sessions at Reflections on a regular basis. Here they will learn and develop their hairdressing skills and achieve a highly creative qualification.
We have two Training Academies, centrally located in Birmingham and Bristol. Both Academies are City and Guilds approved centres and are funded by the Skills Funding Agency and the European Social fund.
Established in 1984, our Training Academies are based in Bristol and Birmingham

Reflections Training Academy –
Educate to Innovate
Reflections values itself on high-standard structured training. Using all the latest equipment and technologies with up-to-date training methods to ensure learners receive high-end industry lead training. Reflections Training Academy believes in developing professionalism among all creative hairdressers; it is essential to continually encourage training and advancement for all learners.
Reflections are supporting apprentices to succeed in an inner-city environment
At Reflections we believe the wide range of curriculum and enhancement opportunities we provide across programmes ensure our learners are equipped to be active citizens in modern-day Britain.
Learners have their voices heard through Reflections questionnaires, surveys and suggestion boxes around the academy. Learner representatives at Reflections attend workshops and staff meetings to share their views and put forward ideas for improvement. The representatives are nominated and voted for by their peers. Learners are encouraged to speak openly about the impact of local and general elections on them. At Reflections we promote a safe controlled environment where learners have the confidence to express their opinions and beliefs.
Rule of Law
During induction, learners set out class rules which they feel will support active learning in class. All learners participate in the writing of the rules. The importance of laws, including wider rules and regulations, is embedded into our curriculum. As part of their enhancement activities anti-social behaviour is discussed as the need for laws.
Employment law and health and safety laws feature in depth across the entire curriculum.
Learners are actively encouraged to make good life choices. Our curriculum includes embedding consequence of actions into learning. All learners are given advice, guidance and career choices. Guest speakers are invited to the centre from all backgrounds to speak to learners around the importance of making well informed choices. Learners are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and how to exercise these safely.
Reflections learners are given the skills to present themselves well to others preparing them for the working world. Good working relationships and mutual respect for each other is key to ensuring their learning experience is effective. The ethos of respecting one another regardless of difference is taught within our equality and diversity sessions and embedded through all sessions. One session focusses on stereotyping as a powerful reminder of how judgmental we can be, particularly with our first impressions.
Tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs
Reflections promotes diversity through celebrating different faiths and cultures. We have a room set aside which can be used as a prayer room. During sessions learners discuss salon service accessibility in terms of our differences including faiths and beliefs. Short sessions have been developed to give learners an insight in to all faiths and beliefs.
